HAND CUT COINS

My programming Projects

All written by: Gary V. Ambrose II

Programming is basically my hobby. It's something I like to do. I can program in many languages, and am still trying to learn more. Long ago, I gave up the idea of trying to make a living at it (It's impossible for a single programmer to compete with the likes of "Blizzard, Microsoft" and others.. some of them spend millions on a single game). So most everything I release will be freeware. I can however make cool games/programs. Not as eloborate, but I will refine the "gameplay". Mine may be smaller, but all "cool" :) I will spend a year or more, on any game I release.  I may make a few "commercial programs", but most will be free. I have been programming since the DOS days, and have written "dozens" of large programs. Most I don't have a picture for. Below are just a few samples.

DISCIPLES_QUEST_ To date is my largest program. It is a KJV Quiz/Game of the Bible. This was a 2 and a half year long project. It was written in "C/C++". It is registered in the "Library of Congress". In printed form, the programming code is over "400" pages. It is a DOS program. It has a "Windows look", but was written before Windows was released. Basically, while writing this I seen in a magazine a "concept" picture of Windows. I thought,, I could do something like that. So in a mild way.. I made a Windows program before windows.. lol. The features are far too many to list. Documentation alone is hundreds of pages. It has 3 skill levels (for beginners to pastors). Scoring is based upon speed, as well as the answer. It was "Shareware", but was later re-released as "Freeware". Because it's DOS, and won't work on Windows XP or later, I am not providing a download. However, if you want to try it.. you can search for and download DosBox (Which will let you play DOS programs on XP). Then ask me, and I'll send you a copy.

IMAGE PRO 2 - Image Pro 2, is a Windows re-make of a program I wrote back in the DOS days. The first "Image Pro" (Written in C/C++)was designed to be a super fast image viewing and editing program. What it did, it did well but I never completed it. "Image Pro 2" (Written with Visual Basic 6.0 professional) is the same concept. It's a work in progress. It does display images (and super fast). I have many plans for this program.. so I do not plan on releasing it until I add some more features.

ChangeRes - Is a program that allows you to "quickly" change screen resolutions. It is actually a very useful tool. When creating a website, you can see how it looks at any resolution in an instant. When playin older "video games" sometimes they require you to change screen resolution. This is a "super fast" way to do it. The program is fully functional. I have not released it yet, because there is one problem I need to solve first. It will crash your computer if you try a resolution your video card doesn't support. If your computer supports the resolution.. it works perfect. Once I solve this, I will release it as "freeware". If you want a copy now, just ask and I'll send it. Just make sure you know your video card. Written with "Visual Basic 6.0 professional".

FREE CALCULATOR - Just a basic calculator. I basically wrote this to "learn" Visual Basic. It works.. but is not finished. The only thing not complete is the "Memory" buttons. When I made it, I didn't know how to do that. Now I do, but have lost interest in the project (as there are a million calculators out there). It was however a good teaching tool for me. It's always good to start a project, and learn as you go. I could finish it in a few hours, but feel if I ever do release it I will be adding more functions first.

No, it's not as bad as it seems. Yes it's an adult program, but there are no dirty pictures or anything. Basically, it's a little program to help a couple spruce up their love life. Instead of him being afraid to "ask for things" he wants, or her being afraid to "ask for things" she wants... "The computer picks". The couple can pick together the "catagory" or they can let the computer pick the catagory (in case there are things the other won't do). The idea is, both have to "agree" to whatever the computer says". The catagories range from "cuddle and candles", to "whips and chains".. lol. I haven't released it, but I could at any time. I got some things I want to add first. And no, it's not in conflict with the "Biblical" program I wrote above. This is for "married" (or committed) couples :)

SEBASTIAN LEE - This is my current (and favorite project). It's a side-scrolling platform game created with "Scrolling Game Development kit - ver 1.4.6" and "Visual Basic 6.0 professional" (These are highly technical, professional development tools). The name may be altered, but basically it's about my son "Sebastian Lee Ambrose" on a "good vs evil" quest. As far as icons go.. crosses are good, pentagrams bad (you get the point). Currently it is very early in development. However, the main "core" of the game is complete" (one of the hardest parts). You can only see a little on this picture.. but I can scroll a huge game map.. and plug in platforms, tiles.. whatever where I want. It also has a second layer (scrolling background) that I am creating art for. It's high resolution. All graphics will be "refined, and refined again". All graphics will be "original" and made by either me (or people I have help work on it). I have no "timeline" for completion. I expect it to be like 2 years. I making it, and making it "good".. I am not doing it for "money" (it will be free). I just want a "cool game" out there.. that hopefully will stand the "test of time". As a programmer, I realize it's impossible for "one person" to compete with the current "commercial" games out there. They throw millions of dollars into the development of those, and have hundreds of people working on them. So I am not trying to compete. But also, I know a good (well thought and refined) game will still be played. Look at "Pac man", "Asteroids", etc.. those are still being played today. Basically.. I want to make a game that will "last" like those. The game will be finished when I feel it's complete. Keep watching, as I give updated pics on the development..

Video Game creation, is one of the "hardest and  most involved" things a person can do on a computer. Some people think "it's just a game", but in reality it is FAR more intense then any Business app, Database", or anything really. Websites, can look pretty good in a few days. Games, well it takes alot more. Because you have: Sprites to animate, game maps to create, tiles, collision detection, and a whole hell of alot more. Not to mention they use most "every" resourse on your computer. You need to detect systems, log errrors, and more. It's not just "making a picture", it's controlling every element, at every moment a user can see. Beyond that, you need to understand "programming" deeply, as well as well as "art creation", and good game design. Anyway.. this is my "Passion", and I will be making games. They just may take a few years to release (once I start).. lol.

These are just samples of my projects... Anything I decide to release, I'll place a download link here.
